I may not have been Catholic, and I may not have met him, but he was by any measure an influential figure in worldwide politics, religion, and culture. He went to greater lengths than any national figure I can think of to make life better for everyone on the planet. He wasn’t perfect, he wasn’t everyone’s favorite person on the planet, but he tried his hardest to do what he could to help others. We should all be so lucky to have someone like that in our lives. May he rest in peace, in a better place now.
